Katy McClane to Perform World of Flutes at Brown Bag Concert September 21

Katy Davis McClane will perform at the next Randolph County Community Arts Center’s Brown Bag Concert Wednesday, September 21, beginning at noon. This free monthly event is sponsored by the Davis Trust Company.

McClane grew up in Elkins and started studying the flute at age 10.  For the past thirty years she has taught flute and recorder, spending the past eleven years at Sharjah English School and Dubai College in the United Arab Emirates.  While at American University of Sharjah, she led the Jump Start jazz band in concerts of swing music, featuring the flute as the lead horn. She also performed with the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra.

McClane holds a B.A. in Art from Slippery Rock University.  Her musical training includes classical, jazz, and folk styles. She also collects flutes from around the world.

McClane returned to Elkins permanently this year and notes, “I am looking forward to teaching flute and recorder, starting a flute choir, and performing in other ensembles in Elkins.”  She is currently studying Hospitality and Tourism Management at Davis and Elkins College.  Her husband, Richard McClane, is an old time fiddler; her son, Keenan, plays violin; and, her son, Warren, plays both cello and guitar.  McClane has been involved with the Augusta Heritage Center for many years, having taught mini classes, and served both as concert manager and silent auction organizer.

Local flutist Linda Wolfersheim will join McClane for one selection.

The Randolph County Community Arts Center, a non-profit organization promoting and supporting the arts in Randolph County and surrounding areas, is located at the corner of Randolph Avenue and Park Street in Elkins. The RCCAC is supported by private donations as well as by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. The Brown Bag Concert Series is sponsored by Davis Trust Company.
