Cordis to Present Contemporary Chamber Music Concert at the Arts Center

Cordis, a contemporary chamber music quartet, will perform on Saturday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Center in Elkins.   This concert is part of the 2012–2012 Evening Concert Series.

Cordis has been redefining contemporary chamber music for more than a decade by fusing an original combination of custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments to create their signature sound.  The ensemble includes Jeremy Harman on cello, Richard Grimes on concert cimbalom, Brian O’Niell on piano, and Andrew Beall on percussion.  One-of-a-kind creations such as the electric mbira, melodica, and the world’s longest playing cylinder-driven music box also have a way of weaving their way into Cordis’ performances.

According to Time Out New York, Cordis “makes a strong case for both sides of its musical personality - expanding the boundaries of chamber music.” NewMusicBox.com concurred, stating that “Cordis offers an intriguing mix of instrumentation, and Grimes uses them well to show of his unique perspective on 21st century chamber music.”

Tickets for the Saturday performance are $13 for adults; $13 for seniors; and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the RCCAC office by phone at (304) 637-2355, with credit or debit card, or at the door while they last. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
