Ken McCoy Solo Exhibition in Maxwell Gallery through March 12
A solo exhibition of the work of local artist Ken McCoy of Parsons is currently on display in the Randolph County Community Arts Center. The opening reception for the exhibit will be Friday, Dec. 10 from 5-7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
McCoy’s exhibition, “Images: Near & Far”, will be on display in the Maxwell Gallery of the RCCAC through March 12.
With more than 50 years of interest and background in photography, McCoy has a number of his photos in private collections as well as in local area businesses.
“For quite some time I have been devoted to creating the best possible prints of my work without the use of technological enhancement on the computer,” McCoy said. “I am now “crossing the bridge” to make more use of those digital enhancement technologies and hope that my more than 50 years of photographic experience and background will contribute to good, sound decision making as I attempt to improve on my work with every shot taken.”
“I purchased my first film camera at age 15 and was immediately ‘hooked’ on photography,” McCoy said. “My interests evolved into a period of time when I had my own darkroom in the basement of my home and would spend hours working on just one print.
“When I switched to digital equipment I was totally immersed in the technological possibilities available with this new era in photography,” he said. “Most recently I participated in a professional hands-on, in-the-field workshop with Ian Whitehead, a resident professional photographer in Sedona, Ariz. That workshop has led me to a new world of photography called High Dynamic Range (HDR) in which the goal is to increase detail in the light, dark, and mid-range colors of one’s photographs.”
