Lisbet Okun Solo Exhibition on display in the Maxwell Gallery
A solo exhibit of the work of artist Lisbet Okun of Elkins is currently on display in the Maxwell Gallery of the Randolph County Community Arts Center. The exhibit will be open from noon to 4 p.m., and will run weekdays through Aug. 18. It will also be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“In this show I am exploring my life journey through textiles,” Okun said. “Blending quilting, weaving, and felting, these pieces attempt to express experience in fiber.”
Okun's fascination with string began at an early age, and she continually seeks new ways to tie the strings of her current life to her roots. She learned to knit in her native Denmark; to weave while living in New Mexico; to spin and dye yarn in Central WV and to quilt after moving to Elkins. Each technique reflects another stage of the journey, and each new stitch helps tie it all together.
The Maxwell Gallery at RCCAC, named to honor one of the founding board members of the RCCAC, Judge Robert E. Maxwell, serves as a solo exhibition space for RCCAC artist members.
The West Virginia Women in the Arts Exhibit will be on display in the Great Hall of the RCCAC concurrent with Lisbet Okun’s exhibit.
