Arts Center 10th Annual Gala Juried Exhibition Artists Announced
The 2011 Randolph County Community Arts Center Juried Gala Exhibition will open on September 9th at 6:00 p.m. as part of the Arts Center’s Tenth Annual Gala. The exhibit is sponsored by Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center and more than $1,500 in prizes will be awarded during the evening.
The juror for the exhibit is Betty Carr, a professional artist who has traveled extensively gathering inspirational subject matter through her plein-air painting experiences. Carr is the author of the acclaimed instructional book, Seeing the Light: An Artist’s Guide, and her work has been featured in various books. She has received numerous juried awards as well as exhibited in major exhibitions and galleries throughout the country.

Concurrently on exhibit in the Maxwell Gallery will be a solo exhibition of the work of St. Albans artist Deborah McHenry . McHenry, a lawyer in Charleston, is widely respected for establishing and running the program Artworks at the Roosevelt Center in Charleston. The works in her solo exhibition reflect the incredible influence the children in this program have had on her own artwork.
The fundraising gala starts at 6 p.m. on September 9 in the Great Hall of the Arts Center and will feature a wonderful selection of hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and cocktails that the Arts Center volunteers are famous for. Art, music, dancing, and an auction will top off the celebration to kick off the Arts Center’s tenth season of concerts, exhibits, and arts classes. Tickets for the event are $50 per person and are available by phone with a credit card at (304) 637-2355 or in the RCCAC office. Credit and debit cards are accepted. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Arts Center’s year round programming.
Both exhibits will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Weekend hours will be announced.
The Randolph County Community Arts Center, a non-profit organization promoting and supporting the arts in Randolph County and the surrounding areas, is located at the corner of Randolph Avenue and Park Street in Elkins. The RCCAC is supported by private donations as well as the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
