Sept. 10, 2010

Ninth Annual Gala and Juried Art Exhibit Opening Reception – Friday, September 10 beginning at 6 p.m. Come and enjoy a fun “Western” evening of music, dancing and terrific food at this annual event that benefits the RCCAC. Tickets are available now for $50 per person. Wear your cowboy hat and support the arts!

Solo Exhibition by Margo Blevin Denton – Exhibit in the Maxwell Gallery opens with a reception Friday, September 10 at 6 p.m. and runs through Nov. 17. Exhibit hours are: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Weekend hours TBA.

Juried Gala Exhibit in the Great Hall Gallery – Opens Friday, September 10 with an Opening Reception set during the ninth annual Gala September 11 beginning at 6 p.m. A celebration of the various mediums and styles of art, from sculpture to painting. Hours same as above.

Sept. 11-12, 2010

Gala Watercolor Workshop – Saturday and Sunday, September 11-12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Join western artist Jo Gaston for this intensive class designed for intermediate to advanced students. The cost is $125 for both days (with a 20 percent discount for RCCAC members). Call 304-637-2355 to register.

Brown Bag Concert - Wednesday, September 15 at noon features the Jenny Wilson Jazz Duo.

Early Fall Session of Arts and Music Classes — Classes begin the week of September 20 and run through October 30. An assortment of classes and workshops are offered for students of all ages — pre-K to Seniors. See details inside.

Annual Juried Art Exhibition during the Mountain State Forest Festival – Opens Wednesday, October 6 and runs through November 18. The exhibition prospectus may be requested by mail, picked up at the RCCAC office or downloaded here.

Oct. 15, 2010

Dan Kamin – Funny Bones – Friday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m., an Evening Concert Series Performance. The internationally acclaimed performer renowned for training Robert Downey, Jr. and Johnny Depp for their physical comedy roles, deconstructs Chaplin's comedy with film clips, live demonstrations, audience participation, and a classic Chaplin short with live musical accompaniment.Tickets: $12-Adults, $10-Seniors and $5-Students.

Dan Kamin – Comedy in Motion – Saturday, October 16 at 7:30 p.m., an Evening Concert Series Performance.  Kamin uses physical and verbal comedy to take you on a hilarious tour of the performing arts, lampooning everyone from pompous opera singers to sleazy magicians.  It's a wicked evening of satirical fun by a "demented, charming and brilliant" performer. Tickets: $12-Adults, $10-Seniors and $5-Students.

Brown Bag Concert - Wednesday, Oct. 20 at noon features the Davis and Elkins Appalachian Studies Club.

Nov. 6, 2010

Orrin Evans Quartet – Saturday, November 6 at 7:30 p.m., an Evening Concert Series Performance. Evans has been praised in print as “the clear-cut best pianist of his time.” The 1999 Thelonius Monk Competition winner incorporates a mix of standard jazz and original compositions featuring an electric jazz/funk band with vocals, horns and guitar. Tickets: $12-Adults, $10-Seniors and $5-Students.

RCCAC Fall Music Festival — Thursday, November 18 at 6:30 p.m. This showcase of young talent will feature the RCCAC Lab Bands, both acoustic and electric, as well as the Davis & Elkins College Soul Revue. Special guest will be blues artist Ian Walters of Washington, D.C.

Holiday Arts Market – Friday, December 3 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Great Hall will be filled with pieces from RCCAC member artists, musicians and writers, and a variety of items will be available for purchase. RCCAC members make your table reservations now. First come first served.

"Recent Paintings", a Solo Exhibition by Ruth Blackwell Rogers – Exhibit in the Great Hall opens Dec. 3 and runs through January 20.  Exhibit hours are: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Weekend hours TBA.

Drew the Dramatic Fool – Saturday, December 4 at 7 p.m., a Family Series Performance. Drew the Dramatic Fool reinvents the ancient art of brilliant bumbling. Inspired by the traditions of jesters, comedians, cartoons and clowns, Drew offers amusement relevant for today‘s audiences by giving them laughter built on a range of human emotions, from joy to fear to despair and back to joy again. All tickets $5.

RCCAC Annual Holiday Open House for Children – Free Event - Sunday, December 5. Children will  create one of a kind holiday crafts and ornaments with RCCAC teachers, staff and volunteers. (All children must be accompanied by a parent.)

Red Clay Ramblers – Saturday, December 11 at 7:30 p.m., an Evening Concert Series Performance.  The Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers are a North Carolina string band whose repertoire reflects their roots in old-time mountain music, as well as bluegrass, country, rock, New Orleans jazz, gospel, and the American musical. Tickets: $15-Adults, $13-Seniors and $5-Students.
