Spring  / Summer 2012 Events at the Arts Center!

Brown Bag Lunch Concerts — Free monthly concerts every third Wednesday at noon in the Great Hall, sponsored by Davis Trust Company. Come early and bring your lunch!

Late Spring/Summer Session of Arts Classes and Workshops --- Classes and workshops begin the week of April 23 and run through June 30. An assortment of classes and workshops are offered in a variety of formats.  See details inside.

The Way We Worked, a Museum on Main Street / Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit  --- Opening Reception Saturday, May 12 from 12:00 p.m.  – 3:00 p.m. The RCCAC welcomes its third Smithsonian Exhibition! The Way We Worked is adapted from an exhibition developed by the National Archives about the history of work in America.  A companion exhibit, designed and curated by local historian Robert Whetsell, with the assistance of Don Rice, celebrates the specific working history of Elkins and Randolph County citizens. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. through July 7.

Elkins Works - A Photo Documentary by The Inter-Mountain --- Opening Reception Saturday, May 12 from 12:00 p.m.  – 3:00 p.m. This photo exhibition by Joe Blankenship and Grant Jones of The Inter-Mountain will feature current workers and work places in our community. Sponsored by The Inter-Mountain, Talbott Frame Shop, and Foto 1 Pro Photo LLC. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. through July 7.

Brown Bag Concert — Wednesday, May 16 at noon features traditional and contemporary ballad singer Jane Birdsong. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Davis Trust Company.

Mick Souter: The Roads & Rails of Woody Guthrie --- Saturday, May 19 at 7:00 p.m., a Family Concert Series performance. Souter, West Virginia’s “Bard of Education,” will portray Woody Guthrie, the American singer-songwriter and folk musician, whose musical legacy includes hundreds of political, traditional, and children's songs and ballads. All tickets: $5.

Applebee’s Pancake Breakfast — Saturday, June 2 from 7:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., an RCCAC fundraiser.  Help support the Arts in Education Program by bringing your family to Applebee’s for a delicious pancake breakfast.  Musical accompaniment by local musicians.  Tickets: $5.

Summer Session of Arts Classes, Camps, and Workshops --- Classes begin the week of July 2 and run through Aug 26. An assortment of classes and workshops are offered in a variety of formats.  See details inside.

Brown Bag Concert — Wednesday, June 20 at noon features classical guitar performed by Wayne Rowand. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Davis Trust Company.

A Solo Exhibition by Laurie Goldstein-Warren will run July 13 through August 17. Goldstein-Warren’s exhibit will feature watercolor paintings of famous musicians.  Opening reception TBA. The exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Weekend hours will be announced.

Brown Bag Concert — Wednesday, July 18 at noon features magical realist blues, jazz, and rock fusion by the Ginsangers. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Davis Trust Company.

Brown Bag Concert — Wednesday, August 15 at noon features old time music by the Elm Street Alleycats. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Davis Trust Company.
