Paper Cut - Scherenschnitt
9am to 3pm, one hour lunch
Saturday - March 15th
Adults, mature teens welcome

In this workshop students will be introduced to the paper cut techniques of Scherenschnitt. Students will be able to use existing patterns or create their own designs. In addition, students may choose to work with colored paper mounted on a white or colored board. Traditional Scherenschnitt has been used in many cultures worldwide and has expanded into an art form appreciated around the world.
Students select an object to draw from - black and white design, similar to lino cut -or select one of the designs in book
Students transfer design on back (white side) of Scherenschnitt paper (black)
Students use small scissors or exacto knife to cut out design:
1. small inside areas, 2. large outside areas
Students lay cut out design black side up on black construction paper and draw around all cut edges with matte black marker until no white cutting edges are showing. If desired, press with iron.
Students use tiny spot of white glue on back of Scherenschnitt to attach to white or colored paper or mat board
Optional: Students put a mat around Scherenschnitt
